We couldn't be more excited for our very own Salmon River Brewery! They were chosen as the Best Idaho Brewery in a new article that selected the best brewery in all 50 states. Below is the description of our Idaho winner:

McCall, Idaho
Whether you're visiting in the summer or fall for a dip in Payette Lake and a hike around Ponderosa State Park or in winter to hit the slopes, Salmon River should be any beer lover's last stop after a day in McCall. This small, lodge-style spot by the Salmon River gives tourists plenty of live music, happy hour specials and elk burgers to liven up their trip, but bold rotating brews such as the 6.2% ABV Chunder Chocolate Stout, 7.5% ABV Big Double IPA and 9.1% ABV Terra Incognita Barley Wine make them stick around a while -- if only to work them off. Even if none of those are on tap, flagship beers such as the Buzz Buzz Coffee Porter used in the brewpub's chocolate cake are consistent favorites among locals and newcomers alike.

McCall-Donnelly High School is one of this year’s Grow Smart award recipients for renovating and expanding a former elementary/high school building, for keeping the high school downtown and for re-using materials from the former building in the renovation.

Idaho Smart Growth recognizes and promotes individuals, companies and communities in Idaho for embracing smart growth principles and putting them into action. Those principles include developing new or existing housing with walkable neighborhoods; mixed land uses; transportation choices including bicycling; reuse of existing land and structures, and more. Smart growth fosters vibrant, livable downtowns and city cores, prevents urban sprawl, and promotes mixed-use development and live/work communities.

The twisting trail led straight into a rock wall. Had we made a wrong turn? Nope. The trail snaked beneath a cliff-faced boulder and disappeared into the forest.

What would be around the next corner? On the trails at Jug Mountain Ranch south of McCall, you never know, but you can bet it’s going to be fun.

The trails at Jug Mountain and elsewhere in McCall are a blast, and surprisingly user friendly.

Why surprising? For one, because mountain trails by nature are steep, and they can be tough to ride. But Jug Mountain’s trails allow you to climb gradually on a dirt road before descending on some giggle-inducing singletrack.

Second, you often can’t see the lay of the land in the mountains like you can in the open Foothills, so navigating a trail network can be tricky.

Trails are mapped and marked at Jug Mountain Ranch, so most of the time you will know where you’re going, and also how difficult the trails will be.

Ditto for Bear Basin trails west of McCall.

Those two areas are great introductions to riding in McCall, or fun places to ride if you’ve been there before...
