A Family Day Off the Slopes

While we anticipate the opening of our local ski resorts, we have had many visitors coming into the chamber looking for things to do and see! Do not fret friends, for there is still much to do in our beautiful neck of the woods off the slopes.

Bear Basin Nordic Center is groomed and open for skiers and snowshoers and they have done a phenomenal job with the early season conditions. Start the morning off right with a light and delicious breakfast at Fogglifter Cafe and then gather the family for a winter adventure in the woods out at Bear Basin! Choose from our local businesses and outdoor experts at Gravity Sports, Hometown Sports or McCall Sports Exchange for your snowshoe, cross-country or skate skiing equipment and head for the hills.

Not feeling a snowshoe or cross-country jaunt? Then check-out the new and improved McCall Activity Barn. A new snowmaking system and 600-foot conveyor have allowed McCall’s Activity Barn to open sooner and accommodate more snow tubing enthusiasts than ever. Snowmaking and grooming crews have now crafted two additional 700-foot tubing lanes at the six-acre site just outside McCall and purchased 100 additional brand new snow tubes! Fun for the whole family and those craving a little more “woo” factor in their day.

Once you have had enough time outside and need to warm-up, head on down to McCall RV Park at the beautiful Northfork Lodge down on the Payette River for a soak! Did you know for $5 a person, you can use the pool and hot tub as a non-guest at the park? Bring your own towel, pay at the desk and use the pool facilities. Open 7-days a week, except major holidays, from 8 a.m. – 9 p.m.

While the kids are getting changed and dried-off, call ahead to Growler’s Pizza & Pasta or Bluemoose Pizza for a delicious pizza to-go! The best part? You and your brood do not even need to leave the car. You can pick-up your meal in the drive-thru and head home to relax in comfy clothes and settle-in for the evening.
