What are RSS Feeds?
RSS feeds allow you see changes to the McCall Area Chamber of Commerce web site without actually browsing to the site. You can see news and events as soon as they are published without continually having to check for changes.
There is some discussion as to what RSS stands for, but most people agree on 'Really Simple Syndication'. In essence, the feeds themselves are just web pages, designed to be read by computers rather than people.
How can I use RSS feeds?
In general, the first thing you need is something called a news reader. This is a piece of software that checks the feeds and lets you read any new articles that have been added. There are many different versions, some of which are accessed using a browser, and some of which are downloadable applications.
There are multiple ways to use feeds. Both Google and Yahoo allow you to add them to a your custom home page. Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and Moziilla Firefox have a special add feed options built into them. Newer versions of Microsoft outlook and other email programs allow you to create a RSS feeds folder. Finally you can download a little program called a reader that lives on your computer desktop or taskbar and periodically looks for new feed items.
