Family Day Trippin’

Load up the family, pack the swimsuits, fishing poles, and if you’re feeling lucky, maybe even a gold pan!

Start your day with a sweet treat from Stacey Cakes. Choose from a fresh-baked selection of pastries, cookies and quiche and don’t forget to pick up a bag of their gingersnaps…trust us, you won’t be able to eat just one!

After breakfast, swing by Paul’s Market and pick up the necessities including beverages, ice, sunscreen and even your fishing license (non- residents of Idaho pay $12.75 for a day license and $6 for each additional consecutive day at the initial time of purchase). Before you head out on your adventure, stop at Evening Rise Bread Company for a packable lunch. These build-your-own, mile high sandwiches are served on a variety of freshly baked artisan breads.

Be sure you have plenty of gas in the tank, as there are no gas stations en route for this adventure!

Head North on Highway 55 then turn left onto Warren Wagon Road. Approximately 6.5 miles on Warren Wagon Road you will see a parking area along the lake. Park here and take advantage of the kayak, canoe and standup paddle board rentals from Backwoods Adventures (we recommend calling to make reservations in advance: (208)469-9067). Head up the river on your rented toys or paddle over to North Beach where you can relax on the sandy shores of Payette Lake.

After your Backwoods Adventure, it is “fish on!” From the parking lot, drive north approximately 10 miles to Upper Payette Lake. This lake is stocked annually with beautiful rainbow trout. Drop a line and enjoy your sandwiches and snacks at one of the many picnic areas located around the lake.

If the family is still ready and rearing to go, on your way back to town stop at Ya-Hoo Corrals for a group trail ride (choose from a 1.5 hour ride or a half day ride). Horseback is one of the best ways to experience the beauty of the Payette Forest, and the knowledgeable guides can teach you a thing or two about the area (and keep you entertained along the way!). We recommend calling ahead to book your ride: (208) 634-3360.

After arriving back in town, the family is hungry and ready for some down-home cooking. How about a plate of spaghetti and meatballs at family-friendly Lardo Grill and Saloon? Since 1973 Lardo’s has been serving up burgers, steaks, sandwiches and Italian fare. Finish the meal off with Big Brulee Cheese Cake or Huckleberry Ice Cream and call the day a success!
